MESSAGE FROM BEN GOMERSALL ABOUT AGAPE FOR THE WALKS:
As Agape Coordinator for Borderlands Emmaus, I would like to ask everyone to please be making AGAPE gifts & setting aside time for the next four walks.
I will collect AGAPE for each walk at my house, 300 Northwind, El Paso 79912. You can contact me at 915-584-4537, Fax: 915-581-1339 or e-mail at gomersall@elp.rr.com . If you know a team member, sponsor, driver, etc. you may take your things to them or with you instead of bringing them to me. AGAPE can be any of the following ideas and much much more. These are some ideas I have seen in the past
Sign up for the 72 HR Prayer Vigil Chapel Prayer Vigil onsite needs prayer warriors Food, homebaked is the best. Food, store bought is good too. Food- cookies, brownies, candy, chips, crackers, cheese, fruit, trail mix-sweet or salty, CHOCOLATE(for the women)(no calories because praising God burns lots of calories), and we all remember what was the best item on our own Walk. Water, Sodas, Diet Sodas, Water, Bottled Tea, Bottled Lemonade, Bottled Juices, Water, and Water. $$$-Cash or Check is always welcomed
Serve on the Support Team for as long as you want. - Help with organizing food, help set up the site, help take down the site; putting things back together for the next weekend (always, always, always needed), help in the dining room before Pilgrims have a meal, help set out AGAPE gifts, Candlelight setup, Closing setup, Chapel setup a few times a day, and these are only a minor few things you could help with during the weekend as a Support member.
Please feel free to call me or email me with any questions or comments or suggestions you may have for me. I may not know the answer, but I promise I will do my best to find out the correct answer.
NOW! It is time for us to share with someone we know who needs special time with our Lord. Sign 'em up TODAY

Sponsorship Letter
SPONSORSHIP – YOUR AGAPE GIFT www.emmausborderlands.org/index.php
Have you ever wondered what kind of gift you could give a good friend? I have a really good suggestion for you. Why don’t you sponsor that friend on a Walk to Emmaus? It would, simply put, be the most loving gift you could ever give to someone, the gift of a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Even better, talk to both husband and wife, and get them both to commit to a Walk. Wow! It doesn’t get any better than that, and your blessings will be more than you can imagine, even though you have many responsibilities during their Walk, with agape letters, delivering your pilgrim, Sponsors Hour, taking care of their family, Candlelight and Closing, and delivering your pilgrim back from the mountaintop. Believe me, being a sponsor is being a loving, Christian brother or sister.
You can get registration forms on this website. (www.emmausborderlands.org)
Get busy, get your pilgrim committed and signed up, and watch the Holy Spirit take over!!!
Blessings, Frank Middleton, Borderlands Sponsorship Chairman
The suggestions listed below are from the Emmaus Handbook. They are good suggestions and should be considered when sponsoring a pilgrim.
Suggestions For Sponsors: Here are a few suggestions for recruitment that should increase your effectiveness, help you properly interpret Emmaus, and effectualize your responsibility in sharing God’s grace as a sponsor.
1. When you are talking to a married person, we suggest you talk with both husband and wife. We want both husband and wife to make the decision together. When possible, their applications should be turned in together.
2. Remember that the Walk to Emmaus is not for everyone. These three days cannot rectify every problem marriage, enthuse every disenchanted church member, cure disturbed persons, or make saints of sinners. The Walk to Emmaus is designed to change environments through Christian leaders. Pilgrims should at least know where the path is, if they are not already walking it. We don’t need just any candidates, we need the best.
3. Feel free to share with a potential applicant what Emmaus meant for you as fully as will help, realizing that all explanations will fall short. It’s not that we are not allowed to tell what went on, but that it is difficult to explain. We want their experience to be fresh, especially for Candlelight and agape letters which will hopefully be surprises.
4. Don’t assume the person you are sponsoring will experience the same things you did. Each of us is at a different place on our spiritual journey. For some, the Emmaus experience will be a mountaintop, a new beginning. For others, it will be strengthening for the journey they are already on. We must not pre-judge our candidates or set them up with unhelpful expectations.
5.To assure the applicant you are personally interested in their attending, make plans to bring them to the Emmaus site for Send-Off. Your bringing them, helping them with suitcases and registration, and sharing in the Send-Off and Sponsor’s Hour is a form of prayer and sacrifice.
6. During the weekend, you and your family become a substitute for the pilgrim. Leave your phone number with their spouse. Do something special for them during the weekend. Share a meal with them. Let the pilgrim’s spouse know that you love and care for them.
7. You have responsibilities to the pilgrim. Pray for him/her during the weekend. Write him/her a letter and make sure others do likewise, especially those closest to them. Support your pilgrim with you presence at Candlelight and Closing. SPONSORSHIP – YOUR AGAPE GIFT

Special Events:
An Interesting Thought:
"The hands that formed the world washed the feet of Judas."
This statement puts our position as a servant into perspective.
Emmaus Sunday at your church:
Rainbow members need to make special efforts in keeping Emmaus before their congregations. People will not attend a Walk to Emmaus unless they are asked. Several churches have had recent Emmaus presentations to the congregations and were successful in having pilgrims register for the Borderlands Walks. If you need the script for a presentation or brochures, please contact Ben or Evaline, 584-4537 or gomersall@elp.rr.com
Seventy-Two Hour Prayer Vigil:
When God moves you to be a recruiter for the 72 Hour Prayer Vigil for the walks, this year, please contact Ben and Evaline. Each recruiter will be responsible for recruiting only four people for assigned prayer times for each walk. Each recruiter will be responsible for filling 1 early/late time slot and 3 other assigned times. Remember there is no limit on the number of people we can have praying for any given walk. Those recruited to pray for a walk do not have to be Emmaus members. In fact, this is a great way to keep Emmaus before the church congregation. Remember, God is counting on you.
